The first to perform a liver transplant in Asia, she began her path in medicine through achieving excellence. Dr. Susan Lim of Singapore sought to do her best at every level of education. Her time at Monash University was no exception. She earned high distinction in Chemistry, Anatomy, and Biochemistry. She was recognized having highest aggregate grades during her three years of pre-clinical classes, winning her the David Rosenthal Memorial Prize (shared). Susan Lim then spent her residency at Trinity College in Melbourne. Upon completion of her clinical hours, Dr. Susan Lim graduated from Monash University in December of 1979 with first class honors. Dr Lim has embraced the motto of Monash University "Ancora Imparo" which stands for "forever learning"! Dr Susan Lim places emphasis on continuing medical education both in Singapore and globally. Susan Lim earned another scholarship to continue her education at the University of Cambridge. There she pursued a Ph.D. in Cell Immunology in the areas of Transplantation and Tolerance. Armed with both a Fellowship in Surgery and a PhD in transplantation immunology, Dr Susan Lim returned to Singapore to contribute her skills to the advancement of surgery in her home country.
